Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessment for Young People

We know that ADHD can present unique challenges for children. Our dedicated team of clinicians is here to support your family through the assessment and support journey.

Our ADHD services are suitable for children aged 5+.

What is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects children in various ways, including their academic performance, social interactions, and emotional wellbeing. Children with ADHD might face challenges such as difficulty concentrating, restlessness, and impulsivity.

Recognising these signs can help parents and carers seek the necessary support for their children.

Our ADHD assessment process

What to expect

ADHD assessments are carried out by one of our Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists or Clinical Psychologists. We follow an evidence-based interview protocol called the DIVA-5, which is a structured interview processes that allows us to provide an accurate assessment.

Once you have booked an appointment we will ask the young person, their parents/carers and their school to complete a pre-assessment questionnaire. This will be followed by a 2-hour in-depth assessment. Their clinician may share their initial thoughts on if a diagnosis is present at the end of the assessment, which will be followed by a detailed report and treatment recommendations.

Frequently asked questions

If you have a question that isn’t listed, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

It is normal to be unsure about whether or not your child may benefit from an ADHD assessment, or something else. This is why we offer free 15-minute discovery calls with our clinicians. It’s your chance to discuss why you think your young person may have ADHD with a professional, who will be able to tell you whether an assessment may be beneficial.

They will be assessed by a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Clinical Psychologist. Both are senior mental health professionals who are specially trained to assess and diagnose neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD.

We offer both in-person and virtual appointments.

In-person appointments are available in Central London, and virtual appointments are conducted via a secure online link sent to you ahead of your appointment.

Following your booking enquiry, we aim to offer your young person an appointment as soon as possible.

We recommend allowing some time between your booking enquiry and the assessment to complete the pre-assessment questionnaires.

At the end of the assessment, your clinician will share their initial thoughts on whether your young person meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.

Following the assessment, we will discuss your young person’s case with at least one other clinician. This is to ensure the quality of our assessment and to check that they are in agreement with our findings. Once this discussion has taken place, we will finalise the report and treatment recommendations.

We aim to get this to you within 2–3 weeks of the assessment.

Yes, our psychiatrists can prescribe medication to treat ADHD. You may hear clinicians talk about ‘medication titration’ – this is the process of gradually adjusting the dosage of medication until the maximum therapeutic benefit is achieved.

We will work with you and your young person to manage this process. After this, we can explore a shared care plan with your GP.

Reviews from MOAI clients

Here are real reviews from some of the people we have helped through our service. You can read more client stories here.

We had a very positive experience with both Jenna and Patrick during our son’s assessment. They immediately made him feel at ease and the whole experience was fun and not stressful for him. I felt that the assessments were really thorough and that his diagnosis showed an in depth understanding of his difficulties and that it will be very helpful for him to have going forwards.

We used MOAI for my son. The care and compassion for my son was amazing. They were very careful and considered in the diagnosis and it felt to be incredibly thorough. When I shared the report with my local authority they said is was an incredibly detailed and robust report.
