Autism Assessments for Young People
Seeking an assessment for Autism can be daunting for young people and their families. Our clinical team is here to take you through the process.
Our detailed autism assessment will help you understand your young person’s specific needs, establish whether what they are experiencing is Sutism, and provide guidance on what to do next.
Our Autism assessments are available for children and young people aged 5+.

What is Autism?
Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person thinks, communicates and interacts with others.
It is typically diagnosed in early childhood, but its effects can persist throughout a person’s life. Not all individuals with Autism will display the same symptoms or severity of symptoms.
Whilst diagnostic manuals refer to Autism Spectrum Disorder, there is increasing recognition that Autism is best understood as a condition rather than a disorder.

Our ADHD assessment process
What to expect
Autism assessments are carried out by one of our Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists or Clinical Psychologists. We follow an evidence-based protocol with three stages. The first is structured parent interview in which we complete a questionnaire called the ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised). The second is an observational session with the young person where we will ask them to complete a series of activities – this is called the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Revision).
Following their assessment sessions you will be invited to an outcome meeting in which your clinician will be able to share with you their thoughts on whether a diagnosis of autism best captures the challenges your young person has been facing. You will receive a detailed report of their findings and recommendations on next steps.
