Anxiety support for young people

Living with a young person who is experiencing anxiety can be worrying. Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team is here to provide expert assessment, treatment, and guidance to help your family move forward.

Whilst the majority of our mental health services are for children aged 5 and over, we also have specialists who can work with younger children.

Anxiety in children

Just like adults, children can experience anxiety. While some worries may be a normal part of growing up, it is important to seek help if anxiety is having a significant impact on their daily life.

Childhood anxiety can be triggered by many things, such as traumatic events, schoolwork, moving home, exams, transitioning to high school, and the pressure to fit in with peers. This can lead to social anxiety in teenagers.

Children can sometimes find it difficult to express how they are feeling

Signs of anxiety can include:

  • Excessive worry
  • Difficulty separating from parents

  • Avoiding situations
  • Physical symptoms (such as stomach aches and headaches)

  • Emotional outbursts
  • Needing reassurance
  • Poor concentration
  • Changes to sleep and eating habits
  • Thinking that something bad will happen

Anxiety support

How we can help

Our compassionate CAMHS team can help you and your young person better understand their anxiety and move forward with evidence-based treatment and coping strategies.

If your young person has not previously received support for their anxiety, we may recommend a mental health assessment, which is completed by a Consultant Psychiatrist or Clinical Psychologist. Alternatively, following your free 15-minute discovery call, we may recommend treatment with one of our psychologists, such as CBT, or, in some cases, medication.

We understand how challenging anxiety can be for young people and their families. Our kind and compassionate team is here to guide you and your young person throughout their treatment journey.

Your young person will be assessed by a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Clinical Psychologist. These are senior mental health professionals who are specially qualified to assess and diagnose mental health conditions in children and young people.

Our CAMHS clinic is an in-person service. Appointments are available in central London.

Following your booking enquiry, we aim to see you and your young person as soon as suitable. We suggest allowing some time between your booking enquiry and assessment to complete any pre-assessment questionnaires.

If you have an assessment with a clinician, they may be able to share their initial thoughts at the end of the appointment about whether your young person meets the diagnostic criteria for a specific mental health condition.

Following an assessment, we will discuss your case with at least one other clinician. This is to ensure the quality of your assessment and to check that they agree with our findings. Once this discussion has taken place, we will finalise your report and treatment recommendations.

We aim to get this to you within 2–3 weeks of your assessment.

Yes, our psychiatrists can prescribe medication to treat anxiety. You may hear clinicians talk about ‘medication titration’ – this is the process of gradually adjusting the dosage of medication until maximum therapeutic benefit is achieved. We will work with you to manage this process, after which we can explore a shared care plan with your GP.

Reviews from MOAI clients

Here are real reviews from some of the people we have helped through our service.

MOAI Health have literally been lifesavers. My teenage son has had severe mental health problems and the waiting list for CAMHS was too long. So after much research, I took the plunge and booked an appointment with MOAI. They have been brilliant. Dr Tucker is amazing and has given my son so much hope that he can get better. He’s friendly with a fantastic knowledge of my son’s condition and we’re hopeful that we can get through this. The fact that we can have sessions online also really helps with my son’s anxiety.

We had a very positive experience with both Jenna and Patrick during our son’s assessment. They immediately made him feel at ease and the whole experience was fun and not stressful for him. I felt that the assessments were really thorough and that his diagnosis showed an in depth understanding of his difficulties and that it will be very helpful for him to have going forwards.
