ADHD medication pathway

Our ADHD medication titration pathway supports individuals with a recent ADHD diagnosis to begin treatment safely.

It is specifically designed for people who have received a diagnosis from a service or clinician unable to prescribe medication.

How does it work?

Referral and review

If you’re being referred to us by a MOAI partner, they will share your diagnostic report with us directly.

If you’re making a referral for yourself, we will ask you to send your diagnostic report to us, in addition to any other relevant information.

Before we can move forward, a Consultant Psychiatrist will confirm that the assessment meets clinical standards.

Initial consultation

You will be invited to a consultation with a psychiatrist. This includes:

  • Talking through whether medication might help.
  • Explaining options, how they work, and possible side effects.
  • A review of your physical health to ensure medication is safe.

Occasionally, additional checks (like an ECG for heart rhythm) may be needed. These can be done via your GP or a local clinic, and we’ll support you with this process.

Medication and follow-ups

If medication is started, we’ll carefully guide you through titration – this is the process of slowly adjusting the dose to find what works best for you.

You’ll have regular follow-up appointments to check your progress and make adjustments if needed. A typical follow-up schedule includes:

  • 1 month after starting medication (usually 30-40 minutes)
  • 3 months (15-20 minutes)
  • 6 months (15-20 minutes)

Moving to GP care

When your medication has been stable for at least three months, we can ask your GP to take over prescribing under a shared care agreement.

  • If your GP accepts shared care, they will take responsibility for prescribing your medication and carrying out routine physical health monitoring. MOAI will remain responsible for annual specialist reviews and provide additional input as required.

  • If your GP declines shared care, we will continue to manage your prescriptions and monitor your health through a structured care plan, including an annual specialist review. We can also discuss monthly payment plans to help you manage the fees.

MOAI Health was recommended to us by the Scotland based specialist ADHD psychologist who diagnosed my adult son with ADHD, confirmation we have waited a very long time for. With our agreement, their report was shared with Dr Patrick Davey of MOAI Health whom we met virtually on a regular basis. We found him to be extremely thorough in his assessment - not only was he very helpful and professional, but also empathetic which was very important to my son as he felt validated and listened to at last. We worked together talking through all the options available to my son, both medication and alternatives, taking into account his expectations and we finally agreed on a medication that is working exceptionally well. Dr Davey also helped us navigate the possibility of "shared care" with our local NHS which unfortunately was not to be. The team was, and continues to be, professional, responsive, and genuinely supportive throughout our journey and communication has been prompt and clear, with requests - such as prescription refills - being handled quickly and efficiently. It’s particularly reassuring to know that everything is managed smoothly, with updates provided when needed and a proactive approach taken by the clinical team - we have always found the Clinical Secretary, Kirsty Phipps to be extremely helpful and supportive. The services provided by MOAI Health feels well organised and patient-focused, which makes a real difference in mental health. Overall, I would highly recommend MOAI Health to anyone looking for a reliable and professional adult mental healthcare service.
